Tiger-Resistant Laptop

BURLINGAME, Calif. — Call it the James Bond of laptops.

We dropped the Panasonic CF-30 “Toughbook,” kicked it, stood on it and tried to back over it with a Volkswagen JettaTDi. (That left a mark–on the pavement.)

We poured Diet Coke on the keyboard. Then we used the lid to crush the can.

WordPress 2.8’s “Visual Editor” is missing.  Earlier I thought maybe it caused by the incompatible internet browser. But I was wrong. Then I “google” (it is really a verb?) it and found that I am not the only one who facing it.

Apple iPhone at US$99

SAN FRANCISCO: Apple Inc. slashed the entry price for an iPhone in half and lowered some laptops by $300 Monday, the company’s first dramatic price cuts since the recession began a year and a half ago.

With co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs absent until his medical leave is over at the end of June, Apple’s biggest unveiling at its annual conference for software developers was a new model of the iPhone, the 3G S.

It looks the same but sports a faster processor, longer battery life, an internal compass, a video camera and a photo camera with better resolution and auto-focus.

A 16-gigabyte version of the 3G S will cost $199 and a 32-gigabyte version will be $299.

The 8-gigabyte iPhone 3G, which came out last year, now costs $99 (RM350), instead of $199.

When the iPhone debuted two years ago, eager Apple fans had to shell out $499 for a 4-gigabyte version and $599 for 8 gigs.

Man United moans, Barca celebrates

Man United moans, Barca celebrates

Barcelona’s supporters celebrate in Barcelona after their team defeated Manchester United in the Champions League final soccer match. — Reuters

ROME, May 28 — Manchester United’s dreams of becoming the first club to retain the Champions League, and Sir Alex Ferguson’s hopes of becoming only the second manager to win the European Cup three times, were burnt in the heady heat of an exhilarating display by Barcelona as Ferguson was left to rue the fact that too many of his big-name players failed to perform on the night.

Ferguson also bemoaned the “shoddy” defending that had handed Barca their opening goal from Samuel Eto’o in the first half, which set his team back so dramatically, with Lionel Messi adding a second to end any hopes of a United revival in the 2-0 result.  “Credit to them the better team won,” Ferguson admitted. “There is a disappointment in the performance and some individuals will feel that themselves.

“We have done well to get to the final, we had to win it to change the pattern of teams defending the trophy. With the players we have we expected better, but losing the first goal was decisive and we could not recover from that.

“It was a killer for us, it was their first attack. We were looking confident and bright but got nervous. After that goal we had plenty of time to recover and had some half chances in the second half. But we were beaten by the better team.

“We were not at our best after the first goal. The disappointment was not using the ball better when we had possession. It could be it was an off-night, it could be that it was too big a hill for us to climb.”

Ferguson continued to pay tribute to Barcelona, who have completed a remarkable treble of the Champions League, the Spanish league and the King’s Cup.

“If you analyse the teams we have played then you have to say they are one of the best,” Ferguson said. “It’s a credit to them that they have pursued that philosophy and have never changed.”

United will stand accused of negative tactics but Ferguson claimed this was not deliberate, even if he attempted to nullify the threat of Barca’s midfield. “Getting the ball was difficult,” he said.

United captain Ryan Giggs admitted his team had been second-best. “At times Barcelona can make you look silly because they keep the ball so well,” he said. “We said whoever turned up on the night would win and that proved to be the case. They turned up and played some great football, we didn’t really. I think if we had gone a goal ahead we are capable of keeping the ball like they are. But they deserved it tonight.”

Wayne Rooney added: “It’s disappointing, but I thought Barcelona were the better team tonight and deserved to win. They scored a good goal early on and Messi’s was a great goal at a difficult time for us. They deserved to win.

“I’ve never played against a better team than Barcelona. They’re a brilliant team. Iniesta is the best player in the world, he’s incredible.

“We’re still a young team and can come back I hope. We’re very disappointed tonight, but can still look forward to next season.”

Cristiano Ronaldo could not hide his disappointment afterwards. “We did not do well — the tactics were not good. Everything went wrong.”

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola said: “I’m leaving, I’m leaving tomorrow, right away. I can’t do anything else. I’m delirious. We are not the best team in Barcelona’s history. But we have played the best season in history.” — Daily Telegraph

Zee Avi (born Izyan Alirahman,[1] also known as KokoKaina; b. 1986) is a Malaysian singer-songwriter, guitarist, and ukulele player. She was born in Miri, Sarawak, on the island of Borneo. She moved to Kuala Lumpur when she was 12.[2] She studied fashion design at American InterContinental University in London.[3]

Avi originally posted a video of her first song on YouTube because one of her friends had missed her first performance in Kuala Lumpur, so she created a video on YouTube for him to watch. He convinced Avi to leave the video up, and soon she received positive feedback, which inspired her to put more videos on YouTube.[3] After she was featured YouTube, she attracted the attention of Brushfire Records, with which she would join.[2] Her song “No Christmas For Me” is featured on Brushfire Records‘s 2008 Christmas album This Warm December: A Brushfire Holiday.[4] Her single “Bitter Heart” was first to become available on the US iTunes store, and her full self-titled debut album was released on May 19, 2009. On the day of her album’s release, YouTube featured her on the front page in Spotlight: Music Tuesday. She is currently touring the United States. –wikipedia

More at Boston’s Big Picture : India’s massive general election (40 photos total)

It’s really funny when Bachchan family show their ink-marked middle finger to the press showing that they had cast their vote for India’s Election on last May 16th, 2009.

India’s massive general election

On May 16th, 2009, the Election Commission of India announced the results of its recent month-long India-wide election for their lower house of Parliament – the largest democratic election in the world. An estimated 714 million voters (from a population of 1.2 billion) were eligible to cast their vote in one of five separate phases at over 800,000 polling stations, starting on April 16th. Logistically difficult, massive in scale, and opposed by various rebel groups, separatists and protestors, the elections still managed to be held with minimal disruption, with an average voter turnout of greater than 56%. The big winner was the the Indian National Congress party, which will form the new government under the incumbent prime minister Manmohan Singh. As with any photo story from India, it is impossible to capture every aspect in just a handful of pictures – collected here are only some of the scenes that played out across the nation over the last month. – Boston’s Big Picture

Malaysia’s Election Commission (Suruhanjaya Plihanraya Malaysia (SPRM)) is planning to use Biometric System for next General Election.
